Juhu Beach:-
Situated at about thirty km from the city on the Bandra-Khar
Road, it is a long stretch of sandy beach. Food stalls, Merry-go-rounds
and tumble boxes are clustered together at a mid-way point
on this sandy strip. This part of the beach, almost deserted
on weekdays, always tends to get very crowded on weekends.
The sea at Juhu is relatively safe during high tide. Children
are entertained with a variety of amusements, like a family
of acrobats who perform feats, along with their well-trained
dogs. There are also horse and camel rides to enjoy. Vendors
ply on the beach calling attention to their wares, which are
mostly souvenirs like T-shirts and cute little Indian dolls
made from sea shells.
These beaches are unspoilt stretches of golden sand. The sea
at Marve and Madh, however, is trecherous in places and it
is important to look out for signboards that indicate the
dangerous points. Manori and Gorai are easily approachable
by ferry. 'Cars may be parked at Marve and thereafter a ten
minute ride in a small ferry takes one across to Manori. At
the other end, a horse or bullock cart may be hired to go
the beach. The sea at Manori is relatively calm. Across Apollo
Bunder, by ferry, is Alibaug - a quiet uncrowded beach resort.
Most people who visit Alibaug use private cottages or company
shacks and bring along a picnic hamper.
